The FCA Group announces new investments in a strategic project to be implemented in the factory in Tychy. The investment will involve the expansion and modernization of the FCA Poland plant and will last several years. The goal is to start serial production of the first of three models of a new cars for the group's brands in the second half of 2022. The preparations have already started. Along with the declared investment, FCA Poland received a positive decision from the Katowice Special Economic Zone in support of the investment in the factory in Tychy.
The announced Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo cars are technologically advanced models based on a new concept of mobility. They will be manufactured using the most advanced drive systems, including an all-electric drive.
As a result, they will set standards in their segment of the market, enabling the further development of the Group's brands and effective competition in the most demanding markets in the world.
The announcement of FCA's investment in the Tychy factory was sealed with a symbolic handover of the decision to grant public aid to the FCA Group by the Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSEZ). Documents from the hands of the Chairman of the KSEZ, Dr. Janusz Michałek were received by a member of FCA Poland’s board, the financial director Sławomir Bekier. The granted support concerns the creation of favorable conditions for the realization of the proposed investment by ensuring that FCA can benefit from tax exemptions in the area of private income tax (CIT).
The announced decision on the FCA Group’s investment also has an important symbolic dimension - it seals the 100th anniversary, which falls this year, of the presence of the Group and the FIAT brand in Poland. It was 100 years ago, that the joint-stock company Polski Fiat was established in Warsaw, and 11 years later, the production of the first Fiats under an Italian license, began at the Państwowe Zakłady Inżynierii in Warsaw. The post-war history of the brand, revived in 1965 in Warsaw's FSO factory, with the production of a new car under license, and eight years later at the FSM factory in Bielsko-Biała, where the first Fiat 126p left the assembly line. In 1975, production started at the plant in Tychy. In 1992, Fiat Auto acquired FSM, establishing Fiat Auto Poland, currently Fiat Chrysler Automobiles - Poland.
We are very pleased that on the 100th anniversary of Fiat's presence in Poland, we managed to convince the FCA Group that new models of Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo cars with electric and hybrid drives should be produced in our country. This investment, worth hundreds of millions of euros, will strengthen Poland's position as a leader in the electromobility industry. FCA Poland - Tychy Plant:
The FCA Poland plant (Tychy) is one of FCA’s largest production plants. It covers an area of 2.4 million m², of which 0.5 million m² is allocated to production halls and service buildings. Currently approximately 2,500 people work at the plant and on its premises there are 42 companies which provide services to the factory. A new car comes off its assembly lines approximately every minute. In 2019, the FCA plant in Tychy produced a total of 263,176 Fiat, Abarth and Lancia cars, including: 179,689 Fiat 500, 21,015 Abarth 595 and 62,472 Lancia Ypsilon. The FCA factory in Tychy operates in accordance with World Class Manufacturing, which is an integrated enterprise management methodology in according to the highest world standards. The Tychy FCA Poland factory, was one of the first in the Group to reach the "Gold" level of WCM.
FCA Poland is one of the largest employers in the region - at the end of last year, it employed nearly 2,500 people. It is constantly looking for innovative solutions and improvements to the way work is organized there. One of the elements that influences this is the development is Plant Academy - a project that aims to develop the technical and leadership skills of employees.
Export is an extremely important and profitable branch for the economy, and the automotive industry is of key importance to Poland’s exports. 99% of the cars produced in 2019 of the Fiat, Abarth and Lancia brands (i.e. 260,842 cars) were exported to 58 markets around the world.
The Katowice Special Economic Zone S.A. (KSEZ):
KSEZ has been awarded the title of the best zone in Poland- Europe and 2nd in the world according to the Financial Times and "Highly Recommended" in the category of the Best SEZ for Small and Medium Enterprises in Europe.
